Mazomanie and Black Earth are the new COVID-19 hot spot

COVID-19 cases in Black Earth and Mazomanie surged by over 50 percent in the past week. 45 new cases were added to make the total case count 132. Mazomanie and Black Earth's new case per ten thousand rate is 94, highest in the area, including all of Sauk and Dane Counties. On October 5, the Mazomanie and Black Earth area had 30 cases. Since then cases have quadrupled. Once the area's least-affected area, Mazomanie and Black Earth are the newest hot spot.

The Prairie du Sac area leads in total cases and new cases, with 55 new cases since last week, bringing the total to 283. The new cases per ten thousand rate is 87, second highest in the area,

Sauk City notched 27 new cases--a decline since last week--for a total of 132 and a new case per ten thousand rate of 45. It is the least active in the area, with a new case per ten thousand rate half of Prairie du Sac and Mazomanie and Black Earth.

Sauk County had another death, for a total of ten, and added 513 new cases. The number of new cases has double since three weeks ago. The County has a new case rate of 79 per ten thousand.

Dane County added 3,700 new cases, for a total of 22,223. The new case per ten thousand rate is 68.

 

School infections

 

As of November 16, there was one positive case at Black Earth Elementary.

At Sauk Prairie School District, there were 20 cases. There were 7 at Bridges, 2 at Grand Avenue, 2 at Tower Rock, 7 at the Middle School, 1 at the High School, and 1 in other District buildings. 14 people are currently in quarantine.

All data comes from the State of Wisconsin website and the CDC website; the data is by census tract and state. Population figures for census tracts come from the United States Census Bureau.

School data is collected for the Wisconsin Heights School District on the Thursday prior to publication. School data for Sauk Prairie School District is collected the Monday or Tuesday  prior to publication.
