Outgoing Black Earth library Director was celebrated as her last day approached last Saturday.

According to library employee Donna Vought, “You may have noticed an interesting caravan making its way through the village of Black Earth on the last Saturday in January. People of all ages gathered to show their appreciation for outgoing Black Earth Library Director Carolyn Shaffer. The tribute took the form of a parade of cars sporting signs and decorations.”

Vought continued, “The vehicles made a slow loop through the library’s parking lot, where, bundled up against the cold, the guest of honor was waiting. In true Carolyn style, she turned what many said was a sad occasion into a joyful celebration by waving and tossing candy to the participants.”

Finally, “Those attending ranged in age from five to 90 with each car stopping briefly so folks could exchange a few words with Carolyn. Being part of the caravan made it hard to determine the exact number of vehicles and I lost count after 40. Safety was taken into consideration with everyone wearing a mask and a box thoughtfully provided to collect cards and gifts before the parade. The event was capably organized by Gaila Olsen with help from library staff.
