St. Aloysius’ students practice archery thanks to national program

St. Aloysius School in Sauk City is participating in the NASP (National Archery in the Schools Program) this year. The instructor, Nick Ringelstetter is a certified NASP Basic Archery Instructor. St. Aloysius School is providing all equipment through funds raised by the Home & School Association, allowing up 12 archers to shoot at one time. NASP is an activity that doesn’t discriminate based on popularity, athletic skill, gender, size, or academic ability. It’s a different kind of team sport. It’s open to any student and is currently being taught to 3rd through 5th graders at St. Aloysius School. The National Archery in the Schools Program is an in-school program aimed at improving educational performance among students. And through it, students are learning focus, self-control, discipline, patience, and the life lessons required to be successful in the classroom and in life. According to statistics, this archery program is noted to have the greatest safety record. All participating students have learned the Eleven Steps to Archery Success and have memorized and are now proficient in the process. Students look forward to the twice weekly classes as part of the physical education curriculum. Daniela Saldana, principle shared, “I am so happy that our pastor, Fr. Miguel Galvez, had the forethought and vision to add archery to our physical education program! It has helped our students improve their hand-eye coordination, strength-building, physical endurance, socialization and patience. We are immensely grateful to our generous Home & School Association for supporting the start-up of this program and for our volunteer teacher, Mr. Nick Ringelstetter, for his professionalism and devotion to both the sport and our beloved school!”
