St. Al’s students try some “Hookah diving”

Students at St. Aloysius School in Sauk City enjoyed the sensation of breathing underwater through a lesson in scuba diving this past December. “Hookah Diving” was the system used and is ideal for someone who wants to explore underwater without the cumbersome gear of traditional scuba diving. The pressurized air supply stays on the surface and is transferred to the divers below through air breathing hoses and second stage regulators which are also used for scuba diving. “The primary purpose of this adventure was to expose the 3rd-5th grade students to something they may never get a chance to experience and to enjoy the sensation and freedom of movement in the water” shares Daniela Saldana, principal. “It also gently moved them out of their comfort zone,” notes Nick Ringelstetter, physical education teacher. “Some students were initially hesitant, but all ended up being very successful and loved the chance to try something new and different!” The students also really enjoyed the warm water pool and hot tub at the Cedarberry Inn in Sauk City. They sincerely thank the management of the Cedarberry Inn for allowing St. Aloysius School to use their facility.
