Sophie Reader wins award for oboe

Sophie Reader, Wisconsin Heights High School Class of 2022, was recently named a recipient of the “Exemplary Performance Recognition Award” from the Wisconsin School Music Association. The Exemplary Performance Recognition Project expands recognition of outstanding student performers at the WSMA State Solo & Ensemble Festival. Her performance of “Sonata for Oboe and Piano” by Paul Hindemith, at the State Solo & Ensemble at UW-Platteville, was given an exemplary rating by her adjudicator. She has advanced to the state level three times over the last two years (both virtual and in-person). Sophie was a member of the prestigious WSMA High School State Honors Orchestra last fall. She has been a member of WYSO for the past three years and was in the Youth Orchestra this year, this being the top orchestra. She took private oboe lessons. Sophie was also involved in the Sauk Prairie Color Guard. Sophie received the John Philip Sousa Award for Band at Wisconsin Heights. She will attend UW-Madison this fall to study oboe performance in the Mead Witter School of Music, in addition to studying Sociology.
