Sauk Prairie’s Rebecca Litscher honored with Purple Heart

Sauk Prairie native and business owner SPC Rebecca Litscher received her long-awaited Purple Heart from Senator Tammy Baldwin at a ceremony last Friday. It was the culmination of a 20 year odyssey by Litcher to receive her Purple Heart, an honor some say that is not earned, but rather deserved. In 2003 Litscher was serving with the 998th Quartermaster Company of the 362 Quartermaster Battalion, deployed to Kuwait for the invasion of Iraq. Litscher and her unity spent 15 months shuttling fuel, supplies, and prisoners across a dangerous and active battlefield. Litscher was injured when an Iraqi stole a truck and drove it into the military base, sending her to the hospital for a few weeks. She emotionally recounted after receiving her Purple Heart how that experience—the injury, the hospital stay—inspired her and led to where she is today, a small business owner and fitness expert. Litscher reached out to Baldwin’s office for help in receiving the Purple Heart she had earned. About 20 community members gathered Friday Morning at the VFW Lachmund-Cramer Post 7694 headquarters, along with a few members of the Madison media. Litscher’s family accompanied her.
