Mary A. Endres

Mazomanie--Mary A. Endres, age 89, of Mazomanie passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at Waunakee Valley Senior Living Center on Wed., May 8, 2024.  Her final hours were spent with Phil laying beside her surrounded by her family, listening to two of her and Phil’s favorite love songs: “Some Days are Diamonds” by John Denver and “The Rose” by Bette Midler. Mary was born in Madison on May 26, 1934 to the late George and Lucille (Schlough) Fangmeier.  She attended and graduated from Mazomanie High School, class of 1952.  Shortly after high school, she was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Philip Endres on Oct. 25, 1952.  Many lovingly referred to her as “Mary Arlys” - including Brett Favre when he autographed a picture for her.   Mary and Phil raised their family in Mazomanie and operated the Teen Canteen in downtown Mazomanie.  Once their children got a little older, Mary went to work for the State of Wisconsin, Department of Revenue.  She later had the opportunity to work closer to home, for the Wisconsin Heights School district, where she worked as a school secretary and teacher’s aide until her retirement.  She enjoyed helping students, grade-schoolers and later middle schoolers.  Mary enjoyed gambling trips to Las Vegas, Ho-Chunk, spending time with her family and grandchildren.  In her earlier days, she had a great group of friends who indulged in some epic coffee clutches.  She loved steak and lobster, and had she made it to her 90th birthday on May 26, that is what she wanted for her birthday dinner.  Mary was an avid sports fan, cheering on Mazomanie Home Talent, the Brewers and the Packers.  She was especially fond of Brett Favre.  Phil jokingly referred to Brett Favre as her boyfriend.  She loved the outdoors, ice fishing, and deer hunting - especially the traditional first day of gun deer season pow wow, where the family met in the early morning hours at Phil & Mary’s house to strategize their hunt.  Phil would tape cardboard down on the kitchen floor so all the hunters could trample through with their hunting gear on and not mess up the floor.  Everyone planned the day, enjoyed freshly made cinnamon rolls and coffee.  One of Mary’s favorite sayings was “duck soup.”  Family and friends have countless memories to cherish forever.  She was a former active member of St. Barnabas Catholic Church, Mazomanie.  The family takes peace in knowing she is no longer suffering and she is with Tony and some good friends and past pets.  We are quite certain there is a whole lot of laughing, gambling and coffee clutching going on in heaven, like God has never seen or heard before.  Fly high mom - you earned your wings 1,000 times over.  You will be dearly missed, but forever remembered.  Until we meet again.   Mary is survived, by her husband, Phil, children, Julie (Dennis) Maier, Patrice (Dale) Sutton, Jeanine (Jerry) Acker, Daryl (Julie) Endres, Tara (Greg) Roessler, grandchildren, Jolene (Aaron) Kent, Stephanie Maier, Amber (Rodney) Breunig, Michelle (Dan) Endres, Janelle (Travis) Dyreson, Jenna Endres, Cory (Sara) Acker, Kelli (Brian) Noltner, Allison (Kyle) Acker; great grandchildren, Hunter and Paige Kent, Darien and Levi Lathrop, Miranda and Easton Breunig, Aspen and Ryder Deaton, Colton and Andrea Dyreson, Ivan Acker; her brother, Fritz (Carolyn) Fangmeier; she is further survived by many nieces, nephews, and many, many relatives and great friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Tony Endres; siblings, Lavonne (Clarence) Frey, Lois (Earl) Williams, George (Joyce) Fangmeier. A Celebration of Life for Mary will be held on Sunday, June 9, 2024 from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm at Grandma Mary’s Café, Hwy 14, Arena.  A private interment in the St. Barnabas Catholic Cemetery will be held at a later date. Mary’s family would like to acknowledge and give thanks for the wonderful care she received at Waunakee Valley Senior Living, Agrace Hospice and her wonderful healthcare providers, Dr. Huen, Dr. Kuehn, Dr. Thompson and Dr. Paige.
