Sauk City man dies of self-inflicted gunshot wound
A Sauk City man died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound on the evening of Saturday, May 18th.
According to a press release issued by the Sauk Prairie Police Department, officers were dispatched to a residence for an armed man threatening self-harm. “Officers arrived and began negotiations with the man. During the negotiations officers heard a single gunshot,” the press release read. It continued, “Officers immediately began life saving measures and called up Sauk Prairie EMS, who had been standing by outside the residence, to care for the patient. The patient was transported to Sauk Prairie Healthcare and later flown to UW Hospital. The man was pronounced dead at UW Hospital overnight.”
According to the press release, no officers discharged their firearms during the incident and no officers were injured. The names of those involved are being withheld at this time. The investigation is being conducted by the Columbia County Sheriff's Department per department policy and State Law. Also assisting in the investigation was Sauk Prairie EMS, Sauk County Sheriff's Department, UW Medflight and the Sauk County Coroner's Office.
