Mazomanie gets another liquor license, hears about horses

The Village of Mazomanie is in the process of acquiring another liquor license from Cottage Grove. The board voted to purchase the extra license for $19,740.35. Clerk Angie Volkman explained:   “The amount was based on the minimum $10,000 fee [for the license] with [the Consumer Price Index] increase from 1997, when the law changed. So on top of that we do have a signed developer’s agreement with Danny Jack’s for the $5000 which is helping pay for outside expenses like attorney fees or any fees that we occur on his expense.”   In acquiring the license, the village is passing all the fees and expenses on to the new bar owners. At the June meeting, Office Nate Teuscher reported for the month: “Nothing absolutely super crazy this month, which was pretty nice. At least in the village.” He added, “Cornelius Stewart, the individual responsible for [Deputy] Alex Gonzalez’s injury was sentenced to five years in state prison with four years of extended supervision. He’s still facing federal charges.” The board also approved the bridge design for the 2026 County Highway Y construction project. It will be a wider bridge with improved pedestrian walkways. Carl and Cynthia Brennaman spoke about their neighbor’s property on Bridge Street. There are horses being kept on their neighbor’s property, and the Brennamans and the village are unclear as to whether that’s allowed, even with it zoned A1 Agriculture. Harrop said he became aware of the issue a day before the meeting. Board Member Ray Schlamp said he remembers the board talking to the owners about the horses. Volkman will search for that in the minutes while the village contacts their attorney.
