With a combined contribution of 84 years, three long-time volunteers have officially retired from volunteering at Sauk Prairie Healthcare (SPH). All three remained active until Covid brought a pause to volunteers onsite at SPH in 2020. Ruth Dresser, Prairie du Sac, and Genya Galarnyk, Plain, both served 26 years and Florentine Breunig, Sauk City, served 32 years. All of them worked the majority of their time in the SPH Gift Shop during their time volunteering. Ruth continued with filling in for more shifts in the shop that any other volunteer right up until the 2020 pause. Genya became affectionately named “The Orchid Lady” after her orchid skills and donations brought the beautiful orchids to flourish in our hospital lobby. Florentine most recently helped with greeting and canteen duties at SPH blood drives and events. Now part of our Emeritus Club, we thank all three for their support and years of service to SPH. Each has left a legacy of embracing volunteerism and remain role models for those who served with them and for those who come behind them. We will forever be grateful for their support.

Remembering 69 years ago, the Prairie du Sac High School class of 1952 met on Sept. 19th, 2021 at LWCC. Those who attended were, left to right, Art Yngsdal, Dean Petzke, Shirley Enge Zedrow, Joan Keitel Hicks, Don Rischmueller, and Russell Fenske (seated).

Devon Frey of Prairie Du Sac received a $1,000.00 scholarship from Karate America Lodi for the 2021-22 school year. Devon is enrolled at Madison College studying business. He is the son of Mark and Andrea Frey.

The Mazo Muddlers, a group of local, politically active women, recently gathered on the Mazomanie Promenade to honor the Base Camp Cafe and show appreciation for its many contributions to the community. The Muddlers have met routinely at Base Camp for the better part of five years. Mary Beth Schall, the cafe’s owner, was presented with a keepsake book of the Driftless region she has so enhanced through her efforts. Chef Nadja Larini (Izzy) received a book celebrating the power of cooking to connect us to one another. The Mazo Muddlers are a testament to that power to connect, and Base Camp has served as it’s realization.
