Village of Arena prepares for Centennial Celebration this summer

The Arena Centennial Celebration recognizing the village’s 100 years of incorporation will take place this summer with a series of events. At their January meeting, the village board approved the annual Mary Jones & Yolanda Peterson Memorial event on Friday and Saturday, July 7 and 8, including fireworks and a liquor license. 

Black Earth’s newest park needs a name; residents can weigh in

Black Earth residents have the chance to name a new village park. The Parks Committee has put out a call for name submissions for the park, which will be located on land north of Kwik Trip. The Committee will decide at their March meeting on the name. Resident are encouraged to write a letter to or email the village with name suggestions.

Sauk City adds more parking to Water Street

The Sauk City village board made a parking change on Water Street. The board voted, with Amy Krumenauer opposed—to add four spots to the west side of the 600 block of Water Street. Given two options, one with more spaces but worse visibility, the board chose the safe option.

Prairie du Sac adds new board member

Prairie du Sac’s village board welcomed a new member at their January 10th meeting. Michael Gesicki, who had expressed interest in serving, was elected to the board. Gesicki’s term will end this April. Board member Jim Witecha said that “due to his employment with the Wisconsin Election Commission,” he would abstain from the vote.

Mazomanie approves snow removal ordinance, pool renovation project

The village board of Mazomanie approved an official snow removal policy at their meeting on January 10.

Black Earth Village Board gets clarity on electric utility financials

At their January meeting, the Black Earth Village Board heard from Jeff Stanek, who reviewed the finances of their electric utility. This goes back to the board’s August special meeting, when Village President Mitch Hodson said in regard to the electric utility, “I want to understand all the numbers.”

Village of Sauk City has big plans for Village Hall

At a projected cost of $1.4 million, the Sauk City Village Hall remodel project is going nearly all out to reconfigure and update the building. The remodel project has long been on the village’s to do list, and at their December meeting the board heard the near-final price on project and had a few options to choose from.

Black Earth Parks Committee seeks input from public

The January 17th Parks meeting at 6 p.m. for the village of Black Earth will include a “community visioning session and public hearing.” All residents are encouraged to attend.

Prairie du Sac’s debt worthiness rating upgraded

On December 19, 2022, Moody’s Investors Services upgraded the Village of Prairie du Sac’s general obligation debt rating to Aa3 from A1.  The rating reflects the village’s ability to repay debt and debt-like obligations. 

Black Earth electric bills going up by 3 percent

Average residential customers of the Black Earth Electric Utility will pay about $3 more per month for electric, according to an order issued last week by the Public Service Commission.
