COVID-19 cases continue downward trend

COVID-19 cases continue to trickle into the area, but at a rate far less than what was seen in the fall. There have been 1,482 cases in general population defined by the Sauk Prairie and Wisconsin Heights School District. The Sauk Prairie School District geographical area has recorded five deaths; the Wisconsin Heights area ten.

With new deaths, Black Earth’s COVID-19 fatality rate exceeds 10 percent

The Village of Black Earth recorded two new COVID-19 deaths, to bring the total to nine. The Village’s rate of deaths per ten thousand is nine times that of Dane County. 11.7% of those in Black Earth who have contracted COVID-19 have died. That compares to 0.6 percent for Dane County.

First doses of vaccine arrive at Sauk Prairie Healthcare


Emergency Room nurse Belle Koch was one of the first Sauk Prairie Healthcare employees to be vaccinated.

Sauk Prairie Healthcare has received its first shipment of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine and began vaccinating some of its staff today. Respiratory therapist Elaine Jones and Emergency Room nurse Belle Koch were the first to be vaccinated at Sauk Prairie Healthcare.

At the Black Earth Library Communications and Finance subcommittee meeting on December 28, Library Board member Angie Updike expressed concerns about information leaking out of their previous closed sessions
