Drought leads to disaster declaration

The USDA has declared natural disaster areas in a handful of Wisconsin counties due to insufficient rain this spring and summer.

Sauk and Dane counties are among the roster, which includes Columbia, Iowa and Jefferson counties.

Pat Nachreiner, driver in last summer’s bicycle hit and run, pleads guilty

Pat Nachreiner, 62, a Plain native who police accused of striking and killing a bicycle rider last summer, pled guilty to the charges of Hit and Run-Involving Great Bodily Harm in Sauk County court June 23rd. Nachreiner was set to face trial on July 10. During Nachreiner’s court appearance the victim’s family was in the courtroom.

House fire near Kwik Trip results in total loss

The Sauk City Fire Department was called out to a house fire at 2:08 p.m. on June 29, joined by Prairie du Sac Fire, Merrimac Fire, and Sauk Prairie Ambulance, on Carolina Street. Upon arrival Sauk Fire found the house fully engulfed in flames from multiple sides. Firefighters quickly achieved a knockdown on the front of the house.

The Highway 12 and County Z intersection in Prairie du Sac township was the scene of a multi-car crash and a fatality on July 4th.

13-year-old Reedsburg teen living ‘Off the Grid” in Baraboo Bluffs

A Reedsburg boy is attempting to “live off the grid” in the Baraboo Bluffs, according to the most recent reports from the Wisconsin State Journal, after the 13-year-old fled his house early last Monday and took the family car, a loaded weapon, and several survival guides into the woods near Sauk Hill at Highway 12.

Sauk County Sherriff’s Deputies continue to search a portion of the Baraboo Bluffs on Thursday, June 15th, for a missing 13-year-old who took his family car and his father's handgun in the cover of night and has camped at least one night in the woods.
