Obituaries

Arena--Sharon Nancy Stoltz, age 90, of Arena passed away at Maplewood Nursing Home, Sauk City on Oct. 12, 2023.  She was born in Madison on Oct. 10, 1933 to Daisy (Thompson) & John Raftree.  She attended Madison East High School; graduating in the top ten percent of the Class of 1951.  She was a member of the National Honor Society.

Mark A. Wopat, age 58, passed away on Friday, September 29th 2023, at Sauk Prairie Hospital. 

Mark was born in Madison, WI on March 23rd 1965, the son of Paul and Doris Wopat. He graduated from La Follette High School. Mark worked as a welder for McFarlanes and Skyline Steel for many years, and later ran his own painting business. 

Richard A. Grant of Lake Wisconsin/Merrimac, passed away at home on September 30, 2023. Richard was born in Springfield, IL to William and Dorothy (Shields) Grant on May 3, 1937. After serving his country in the armed forces for three years from 1955 through 1958, Richard returned home from Korea and married Nancy A. Peters on July 3, 1959.

Sauk City--Shirley Slaney, 84, passed away on Friday, September 29, 2023 surrounded by family, after suffering a heart attack at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison. She was born on January 23, 1939. 

Dennis Robert Kerl, a devoted husband, loving father, and Navy veteran, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family on September 28, 2023 at the age of 77. 

Black Earth--Sally Jo (Salava) Sutcliffe, age 64, of Black Earth, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 30, 2023, at UW Hospital and Clinics. She was born on June 29, 1959, in Richland Center, Wis., the daughter of Joseph and Judith (Boughton) Salava.

CROSS PLAINS - James G. “Jim” Miller, age 59, of Cross Plains, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2023, at his home, surrounded by his four children. He was born on March 21, 1964, in Zion, Ill., the son of James “Sunny” Miller and Ruth (Rogers) Cross.

Prairie du Sac--Harlan Louis Klepper passed away September 9, 2023 at the Stoughton Hospital. He was born July 20, 1941 to Theodore and Mabel Klepper in Iowa City, Iowa. The family moved to Prairie du Sac in 1946, where Harlan lived the rest of his life. Harlan was a 1959 graduate of Prairie du Sac High School.

Sauk City--Evelyn M. Koenig, age 90, passed away peacefully at Maplewood Nursing Home of Sauk City, WI, on Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2023. She was born in Windsor, WI, on Aug. 19, 1933 to the late Peter and Hilda (Buttenhoff) Thomsen. She attended and graduated from Madison East High School in 1951.

David W. Lemke, age 80, passed away on the 2nd of September, 2023 at Heartland County Village, Black Earth. He was born on July 23,1943 to Ode and Eleanor (Radtke) Lemke. He graduated from Black Earth High School and attended two years at MATC. He was employed by Community Publications in McFarland until retirement.
