Eagles hold off Sparta in playoff opener

Survive and advance.

It wasn’t always pretty for Sauk Prairie’s girls softball team in its WIAA Division 2 regional quarterfinal on May 16. But the Eagles did just enough to edge Sparta, 9-8, and advance to the second round of the playoffs.

Wisconsin Heights softball coach Scott Wood knew his team would make strides throughout the season.

That’s what happens when you have one of the youngest teams in the state.

Wood’s Vanguards took a big step forward last week, winning two of their four games. Heights is now 3-15 overall and 2-5 in the Capitol South Conference.

Baseball Vanguards have tough week

Wisconsin Heights’ baseball team dropped three games last week.

Heights boys track team fourth at Belleville Invite

The Wisconsin Heights/Barneveld boys track and field team finished in fourth place at the Raider Invitational held at Belleville High School on May 10.

Lodi won the team title with 192 points, while the Vanguards finished with 65.0 points.

Sauk Prairie’s track teams continue to shine, even when the weather becomes dark.

The Eagles’ girls finished in second place at the rain-soaked, nine-team Wisconsin Dells Invite on May 10.

Eagles’ softball team has rough playoff path

The path will be daunting.

Then again, that’s what happens when the regular season doesn’t go quite like you’d hoped.

Sauk Prairie’s girls softball team received the No. 8 seed in its half of the sectional. The Eagles host ninth-seeded Sparta Thursday at 5 p.m. in a WIAA Division 2 regional quarterfinal.

Boys lacrosse team receives No. 15 seed

Sauk Prairie’s boys lacrosse team received the No. 15 seed in its sectional and will host 18th-seeded Brookfield Central/East in a regional quarterfinal on May 24. The winner of that game travels to second-seeded Kettle Moraine/St. John’s Northwestern for a regional semifinal on May 28.

Eagles’ tennis team tops Preble

Sauk Prairie’s boys tennis team had an extremely busy week, with seven matches in a six-day window.

The good news is the Eagles finished their week in style with a 4-3 win over Green Bay Preble. The bad news is Sauk Prairie lost its first six matches of the week.

That’s how the girls soccer teams from both Sauk Prairie and DeForest undoubtedly felt after the two teams played to a scoreless draw on May 9.

Sauk Prairie golfers set for postseason

The postseason is just around the corner.

And Sauk Prairie’s boys golf team is performing at an extremely high level as the playoffs near.

The Eagles finished in second place last week at a Badger Conference Small Mini-Meet held at Reedsburg on May 7. Sauk Prairie then was second at its own 15-team invite on May 8.
