They won’t be a trendy pick to win the league.

But Sauk Prairie’s girls softball team hopes to surprise this spring.

The Eagles took some hits in graduation, but return a nucleus that could blossom and eventually create some noise.

Sauk Prairie was scheduled to begin its new season Tuesday against Madison Edgewood.

Double trouble

Wisconsin Heights senior guard Jacob Brabender (top) was named second-team all-Capitol South Conference, while senior guard Derek Adler (above) was named honorable-mention all-league.

Four Eagles’ wrestlers named all-league

Sauk Prairie landed a handful of wrestlers on the all-Badger West Conference wrestling team.

Grant Sorg (top) was named first-team all-conference at 182 pounds.

Hockey Eagles named all-league

Sauk Prairie’s co-op hockey team had four players named to the all-Badger West Conference hockey team.

Hartwig named all-state

Sauk Prairie senior Maggie Hartwig was named first-team all-state in Division 2 by the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association.

Hartwig, a University of Evansville recruit, averaged 19.6 points and 14.2 rebounds per game. She was a unanimous first-team all-conference selection.

Heights pair named all-league

Keera Payne (top) was named second-team all-Capitol South Conference, while Emily Van Riper (below) was named honorable-mention all-league.

Payne averaged 11.4 points, 4.4 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.8 steals per game.

FAB FOUR

Sauk Prairie’s girls basketball team had a terrific year, going 16-9 overall.

And the Eagles were rewarded as four players earned all-Badger West Conference honors.

Senior Maggie Hartwig was a unanimous first-team all-conference selection.
