Pardeeville topples Vanguards

They were outstanding at times.

At others, they were subpar.

Unfortunately for Wisconsin Heights’ boys basketball team, that wasn’t good enough.

The Vanguards traveled to Pardeeville last Friday and dropped a 68-62 decision to the Bulldogs. 

Eagles’ wrestlers 10th at Fondy Invite

Sauk Prairie’s wrestlers finished in 10th place at the 13-team Fond du lac Invite last Saturday.

Bay Port won the team title with 225.0 points. The Eagles finished with 95.0 points.

Sauk Prairie’s year in sports

It was a stellar year for Sauk Prairie’s boys and girls sports teams, which created many highlights and lifetime memories in a bounce-back 2022 calendar year.

The Eagles were competitive in the newly formed Badger West Conference, which included all sports but football, which is now in the Badger Small Conference.

Sauk Prairie’s boys basketball team needed a win.

Both happened for the Eagles Friday night.

Sauk Prairie traveled to Beaver Dam, built a 24-point lead, then held on for a 61-55 win. Just three days earlier, the Eagles dropped a thrilling, 82-80 triple overtime affair to visiting DeForest.

Shining star!


Donovan Wuerger of Sauk Prairie recently won the 9-year-old division of the state punt, pass and kick competition held at East DePere High School. Wuerger won the local competition held in Sauk City in September, then captured the regional competition in Verona in October. Those two victories qualified him for the State competition, which he also won.

Heights girls split two

Wisconsin Heights’ girls basketball team split a pair of games last week.

The Vanguards defeated Monticello, 60-54, on Dec. 6. Heights also fell to Poynette, 60-54, on Dec. 8.

The Vanguards are now 2-5 overall.

Sauk Prairie falls to Lake Mills

If the early season results have shown Sean McGann anything so far, it is that no lead is too safe or deficit too difficult to overcome.

Sauk Prairie’s boys basketball team played its third straight nail-biter last week, falling to visiting Lake Mills, 77-71, in a thrilling non-conference game on Dec. 6.

Eagles’ hockey team splits a pair

The Sauk Prairie co-op hockey team split a pair of overtime decisions last week.

The Eagles opened the week with a thrilling 4-3 victory in double overtime over host Reedsburg/Wisconsin in a Badger West Conference clash on Dec. 6.

The Sauk Prairie girls’ gymnastics’ team might be small in numbers this season with just 14 members on its roster. But the Eagles are poised to make some noise this winter after a successful opening to their season last week.
